Yoga transcends body type, physical and mental abilities, and socioeconomic status. In our classes, you decide what serves you. We are here only as guides. You have the freedom to respecfully express yourself in your own unique way.
A pose is probably the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear "yoga". This physical aspect of yoga extends to our breath, focus, and mindfulness. While on your mat practicing yoga, these aspects of yoga are front and center. When we step off our mats, we naturally carry them into our daily life.
People with all abilities are welcome. We use verbal cueing and mirrored modeling to guide your practice. Adjustment consent cards let us know you'd appreciate small pose adjustments. Anything we offer is only a suggestion. You do you.
Verbal cueing using common language terminology keeps us focused on our yoga practice. Guiding poses and transitions using "simple to complex" and "effortless to energized" language keeps everyone in the game. We do sprinkle just a little Sanskrit into our practice. Ending a class with Savasana sounds so much better than ending it with Corpse Pose.
Many people are visual learners. We model poses and transitions. By mirroring, you see the poses and transitions as if you are standing in front of a mirror. Embodying a pose is another matter. Minor adjustments (verbal or physical) allows us to properly position your body to maximize the benefits of a pose as well as mitigate the potential for injury.
The hardest part of yoga is showing up. Widen your community and ours by practicing with us. Once present on your mat, let the sights and sounds guide you. Allow your neighbors to hear the sound of your breath as you welcome theirs. Everyone is a student. Everyone is a teacher.
