My yoga practice started in 2019 at a local gym with Ryan, my first teacher. A Yoga Six (hot yoga) opened up next to the gym in 2021. I love a good deal so I signed up for all-access membership. Now I had access to several studios with dozens of instructors. The diversity was intoxicating. 2024 rolled around and Y6 offered yoga teacher training. Again, I can't pass up a good deal so I signed up early to get the discounted price. My wonderful lead instructors Shawndra, Val, and Heather guided my 16 classmates and me through YTT at a whirlwind pace. We all graduated and more than half of us are now teachers. YTT is a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it to anyone want to expand their minds and learn how it affects their bodies.
I am an avid aquaponics and hydroponcs gardener. Growing things with processes and technology fascinates me. My kombucha, kefir, and tibicos keeps me well hydrated. My fresh tempeh provides a wonderful protien source. Tilapia feed my plants as well as me all year long. And my chickens (Janice, Christine, Nicole, and the Delaney sisters) provide me with plenty of eggs to share.
I grew up in a tiny town in Northern Maine. We had short cool, summers and long, cold, beautiful winters. The wilderness captivates me to this day.
Once college years arrived, I left the wilderness to pursue a software engineering career. I spent a couple college years at RPI in Troy, New York. Then I took a job at a flight simulation company in Binghamton, NY and finished my software degree at SUNY Binghamton. The lure of the west and working on space simulations brought me to Colorado to work at Martin Marrieta.
While programming space simulations at Martin Marietta, I started a software training company. My first set of a dozen or so classroom computers had two floppy drives and amber text CRT screens. I traded my corporate job for independence not long after. As the years and technology progressed, I added IT consulting services to my business. The training has long since faded into the past but IT consulting continues to support me to this day.
Years flew by. My health started to go downhill fast. Then I was whacked with a cosmic 2x4. Twenty four hours of Afib due to sleep apnea woke me up. Diet changes started my recovery process. My daughter suggested I take a yoga class. I was hooked quickly. Core and cardio classes were next. The pounds slowly melted away as I built mental and physical strength. The APAP machine is now a relic in a drawer someplace. My breath, movement, and sleep are things I will never take for granted again.
